How we became a couple…

Our story

Matt and Allie met as teenagers working at the mall and ended up dating each other’s best friends through much of college. Needless to say, we never planned on being more than that. Until in 2016, movie marathons of Domnhall Gleeson’s most emotional performances and horror that Matt wouldn’t admit he hated, deep conversations about the state of our lives, a bar of lemon soap, and a (nearly) instantanous love of each others’ dogs brought us together.

While Allie may not have been able to stop saying, “I can’t believe I’m dating Matt Funk,” for the first six months, things just worked.

That same year, we moved to Indiana and then again in 2017 across the country to the suburbs of Seattle on Matt’s military orders. Since then, we’ve built a home in Washington, with careers in tech, a new home, our sweet puppies, and a Tesla Matt would probably love to tell you about.

On February 8, 2022, after years of talking about it and before another set of orders, we went to the courthouse with close friends in Washington and got married. There was no big proposal, although we like to pretend Matt did it with the Smeg toaster Allie had been wanting for years that arrived that week. Instead, we picked our rings together as a married couple.

On December 8, 2022, our immediate families joined us in Hawaii for an intimate ceremony and dinner overlooking Maui. Next, we look forward to celebrating with all of you at home!

Over the last 7 years, we’ve shared our passions for video games, anime, lifting, movies, music, books, and more, growing together. Best friends and partners in all things. After Matt’s retirement from the military this summer, we hope to travel more and keep acting like we’ll never grow up, together.
